IceCon is a science fiction and fantasy convention that will be held in Reykjavik on the weekend of the 28th to 30th of October 2016.

The SFF fan community in Iceland has been growing year by year and we hope it will grow more as the community finally has a chance to come together. It is our aim that IceCon be held semiannually, so if everything goes well the next IceCon will be held in 2018.

We want to include everyone and to see to it that this is a great experience for all. So if you have any questions or you want to lend us a hand, please contact us at icecon2016(at)gmail.com.

IceCon 2016 is supported by Reykjavík – UNESCO City of Literature.

Program

The program will be in English and will be mostly literature oriented, but it is our hope to offer panels about other subjects too. To make that a reality, we will need people to talk about those subjects so if you are knowledgeable about a fan related subject, let us know via email.

The program will start on Friday evening on the 28th of October with a bar meet. This will be followed with a day of panels and a masquerade ball on Saturday (awards for best costume), lunch and a half a day of panels on Sunday. You can get more information about the program here and if you want to participate, please let us know by writing to us at icecon2016(at)gmail.com.

Guests of Honor

We are delighted and honored to announce that IceCon’s first guests of honor are the American award-winning author Elizabeth Bear and the Swedish award-winning author Karin Tidbeck.

Travel to Iceland

This is a small convention that is located in the middle of the Atlantic. So if you have friends across the pond (as they say in the UK) IceCon is a great opportunity to meet up with old friends, make some new ones and generally have a good time.

So, if you want to meet the Icelandic fan community, see our unique nature and maybe get a glimpse of the northern lights, register here.

Information about traveling to Iceland can be found here.

Registration Fees

The price of registration is 50 Euros, with the option to add a hangover lunch on Sunday for 20 Euros.

Registration fees can be paid via PayPal, or through your bank institution if you have an Icelandic bank account. Further information will be sent to you by e-mail once you register for the conference!

Code of Conduct

IceCon 2016 has a code of conduct. Please read it here before registering for the conference.

Accommodation

Unfortunately, we’ve not been able to get special rates at hotels for Icecon members, due to exploding tourism; there is no off-season anymore. But there are plenty of good hotels and hostels in Reykjavík with acceptable rates.

Designated Bar

The designated bar for the conference is the Klaustur Bar of Kvosin Downtown Hostel, right next to Iðnó where the conference is held.

Kvosin will be offering special prices for conference guests, and will create a special IceCon cocktail (information to be posted).
